West Newton – Mr. Peter A. Vereker, of West Newton, formerly of Waltham, died Thursday, June 8, 2017. He was 54.

Peter was born in Waltham on March 6, 1963, a son of the late Lawrence M. and Frances P. (Skerritt) Vereker, and had been a lifelong resident before moving to West Newton eight years ago. He was a 1982 graduate of Waltham Vocational High School.

Though ill for the past few years his faith sustained him in his darkest hours and the love of his family kept his spirit alive. Peter was kind, affable and generous. He loved being with his family and his friends. Parties gained an added dimension when he walked into the room . . . he loved singing Karaoke and rocking the microphone.

His favorite spot away was in Ogunquit, Maine where he spent time with his sister and brother-in-law, Fran and Greg and their family. It was there that he found peace, light, joy and refreshment.

He leaves his sister and brothers, Fran Helms and her husband, Greg, of West Newton, Johnny Vereker and his fiancée, Allana Johnston, of Tyngsboro, Larry Vereker and his wife, Irene, of Billerica, and Joe Vereker of Waltham; his nieces and nephews, AJ Helms, Ashley Vereker, Greg Helms and his wife, Kristen, Michael Helms, John Michael, Jackie, Shawn, Bryan, Joey, Payton and Cameron Vereker, Ben, Kellie, Riley and Lorelai Cooke, and Amber Johnston and many cousins including Sr. Jane Vereker of Knock, Ireland.

Family and friends will honor and remember Peter's life by gathering for calling hours in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, June 12th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 51 Hall Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 90 Wells Avenue, Newton, MA 02459.
