Cambridge - Mary Mahoney was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She died peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Cadbury Commons in Cambridge where she had been a resident for 8 years. She was 97. At the death of their mother her daughters collectively pause to acknowledge that they have been blessed.

Mary M. Donnelly was born December 29, 1919 in Watertown the only daughter of seven children to the late Joseph M. and Margaret B. (Babin) Donnelly. Raised and educated in Watertown she was a graduate of Watertown High School where she was captain of the field hockey team and played on its basketball team. She married George W. Mahoney on July 11, 1945 in Saint Patrick's Church. They lived many years in Watertown before moving to Waltham where they lived over 30 years. Prior to staying at home to raise her children she worked as a supervisor in the accounting department at Raytheon Corporation.

She was an active member in the Ladies Auxiliary of Ancient Order of Hibernians in Watertown.

In addition to her husband, George who died February 23, 1993 she is preceased by her brothers, Paul, Joseph, Francis, James and Leo Donnelly.

Mourning Mary's loss but celebrating her long and good life is her family, Kathleen M. Mahoney and her husband, William P. Harden of Natick, Mary M. Madden and her husband, Paul of Arlington, Linda A. Dudley and her husband, Richard, Patricia Aiello and her husband, Joseph and Jane M. Whittier and her husband, Kenneth, all of Waltham; her brother, Robert Donnelly of Watertown; also survived by 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, September 24th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 10 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude's Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by her godson, Fr. Joseph Raeke. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Watertown.
