Her only daughter Teresa fondly recalls how often her mother Mary used a familiar quote from the movie Rocky, "I Didn't Hear No Bell!" It was her mother's mantra as she battled her way through a hard fought fight against cancer. That courageous battle came to its end peacefully when Mary M. (Gallagher) Egerton died on Sunday, October 15, 2017. She was 59.

Born in Waltham on December 9, 1957 she was one of twelve children of the late Robert H. and Eleanor T. (Glynn) Gallagher. Raised and educated in Waltham, she graduated in 1976 from Waltham High School and later earned her Bachelor's degree from Bentley University. She lived for many years in Waltham and Medway and most recently in Franklin.

Mary was still working in accounting at Mercer in Norwood where she had worked for the last ten years.

To say Mary was active is an understatement. She achieved her brown belt with black stripe in karate, enjoyed both hiking and bike riding, tennis, paddling her canoe on the Charles River, and most especially, time spent on the sand and in the water at Dexter Beach at the family home in Marion.

In addition to her parents and step-mother, Elizabeth F. (Murphy) Gallagher, she was predeceased by her twin, Mark Gallagher.

She leaves her daughter, Teresa M. Egerton; her siblings, Kathleen Winarski and her husband, James of Odessa, Florida, Richard Gallagher of Walpole, Robert Gallagher and his wife, Carolyn of Waltham, Nancy Veiga and her husband, Stephen of Ipswich, Paul Gallagher of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Philip Gallagher and his husband, Keith Laurent of Tampa, Florida, Stephen Gallagher and his wife, Lilia of Medway, William Gallagher and his wife, Melissa of Hull, Neal Gallagher of St. Petersburg, Florida and John Gallagher of Newport Richey, Florida. She was also the former wife of Howard Egerton of Carver. Mary was a devoted and much loved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Mary was also the beloved grandmother to her daughter's two cats Marble and Bea.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Saturday, October 21st from 2 to 5 p.m. and will conclude with a service in the funeral home at 5 p.m. Burial will be private.

In leu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to Tufts Medical Center, Development Office, 800 Washington Street, #231, Boston, MA 02111
