Newton - Mrs. Maria Immacolata (Scalzi) Russo, of Newton, died at home on Monday, August 13, 2018. She was 83.

Maria Immacolata Scalzi was born October 9, 1934 in Zolli, Roccabascerana, Provincia di Avellino, Campania, Italy a daughter of the late Vincenzo and Giovannina (Fantasia) Scalzi. Raised and educated in Italy she married Luigi Russo on February 20, 1955 in Italy and they immigrated to the United States May 19, 1966 settling in Newton.

Maria worked for many years in quality control for Unitrode Co. and later for Ucinite Company in Newtonville before retiring in 1996.

Amor di madre, amore senza limiti in English translates 'A mother's love has no limits.' And there is no doubt Maria demonstrated this throughout her life as it was always centered on her family. Her loss creates a void that will not be filled. She instilled genuine values in her children and grandchildren of loyalty, hard work and gratitude. She took wonderful pride in her home and gardens in Newtonville. Her cooking was prepared with experience and just the right amounts of necessary ingredients to make it perfetto!

In addition to her husband, Luigi who died November 9, 2008 she is predeceased by her grandson, Christopher Polci; her sons-in-law, Aurelio Polci and David Bryant; her brothers, Nicola, Giovanni, Sabatino and Angelo Scalzi .

She leaves her children, Joanne Russo Polci of Newton, Josephine Russo Bryant of Newton, Domenica M. Clark (Richard) of Medfield and Domenic Russo (Diane) of Dover; her grandchildren, Alexander and Benjamin Polci, Nicholas and Matthew Bryant, Lauren and Renee Clark and Roberto and Grady Russo; her sister Pellegrina Scalzi Clemente of Naples, Italy; many nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Maria's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, August 19th from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Newton Cemetery, Newton.
