Mr. Lester J. Chiasson, of Waltham, died Monday, February 12, 2018 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital after an illness. He was 82.

Lester was born February 3, 1936 in Waltham a son of the late Joseph and Louise (Poirier) Chiasson. Raised and educated in Waltham, he was a graduate of Saint Mary's High School. He married Patricia W. 'Pat' Withington on August 29, 1959 in Saint Ann's Church in Wayland. Lester honorably served his country in the United States Air Force.

He began as a computer programmer for Raytheon Co, EG & G Technical Service, Sheraton Hotels and lastly with Arkwright Mutual Insurance Company. He then worked in maintenance at the YMCA in Waltham and Garden Crest apartments as a painter. His last position which he worked over the last five years was as a crossing guard for the City of Waltham Police Department. He was the steady and familiar face at the intersection of High and Newton Streets.

Family meant everything to both Lester and Pat and the memories they created at home, on vacations and at their cottage in Onset will be forever treasured. Some of his favorite destinations included Seaside Heights, New Jersey, Assateague Island National Seashore in Ocean City, Maryland and vacations to Hawaii. He had a curious interest in lighthouses, especially Highland Lighthouse in Truro. Other interests included reading, puzzles, bowling, and golfing, weekly card games with his sisters and a day trip to Mohegan Sun.

In addition to his wife of 58 years, Pat, he is predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Fred Boudreau and Bobby Cormier.

He leaves his daughters, Leslie J. DiPardo and her husband, David, of King George, Virginia, Georgette M. Chiasson and Terri A. Chiasson, both of Waltham; his siblings, Ronald Chiasson and his wife, Toby Goldstein-Chiasson of Westborough, Doris Arsenault and her husband, Joseph, Loretta Boudreau, all of Waltham and Odette Cormier of Watertown; also survived by two step-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
