Waltham – Mr. George J. Shutt, of Waltham, died Wednesday, January 1, 2020 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He was 77.

George was born on July 22, 1942 in Boston a son of the late George L. and Marion (McGregor) Shutt. He grew up in Watertown and would enjoy sharing stories of his early childhood memories of delivering products with his father at night from the family owned business. He graduated from Saint Patrick High School and Burdett College in Boston. He was a Watertown fireman for twelve years and then ventured into business for himself in construction. He had a real passion for sports teams that made him be viewed a traitor but he stood his ground in any sports discussion. He stayed active fishing, golfing, and enjoying a cold Miller High Life with friends.

He leaves his sons, Paul M. Shutt of Waltham and Michael J. Shutt (Michelle) of Hudson; his three grandchildren, McKayla, Riley and Nathan; his siblings, Mary Smith of Forestburg, Texas, Virginia Bryant (Stephen) of Brewster, Paul Shutt of Watertown; his step-children, Danielle Ramsey of Wareham and Michelle MacLean of Stoneham and nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember George's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, January 7th from 4 to 7 p.m. followed by his funeral service at 7 p.m. Burial is private.
