Waltham - Mrs. Frances M. (Ward) McElligott, of Waltham, died Sunday, July 23, 2017 in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 83.

Frances was born on November 26, 1933 in Medford a daughter of the late James and Winifred (Ferren) Ward. Raised and educated in Somerville she graduated from Somerville High School and attended Northeastern University. She was married to James M. McElligott until his death on May 6, 2001.

Fran worked in the admissions department as a secretary at Northeastern University for over 30 years before retiring in 1995.

She was a much loved and familiar face in her adopted home of Waltham where she has lived for over 54 years. Active at the Waltham Senior Center she was also a member of both the South Side Senior and North Waltham Senior Citizens. She was a member and active in Saint Mary's Church.

In addition to her husband, Jim, she is predeceased by her brother, Robert Ward and step-siblings James Ward and Elizabeth Fitzgerald.

She leaves her children, Gary M. McElligott of Watertown and Janet F. Flaherty and her husband, David of Melbourne, Florida; her granddaughter, Jennifer M. Wayne and her husband, Matthew of Palm Bay, Florida; nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Frances' life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, July 27th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne will be at 1:15 pm.
