Waltham – Mrs. Caroline A. (Martino) Vano, of Waltham, died Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham. She was 87.

Caroline was born in Watertown on June 27, 1931, a daughter of the late Pasquale and Maria Stella (Caruso) Martino. She was a graduate of Watertown High School. Following her marriage to Amato A. Vano, the couple lived for a time in Newton before moving to Waltham in 1961.

Until her retirement she'd worked as an office administrator in the insurance and banking field.

Very social and affable by nature Caroline was a frequent visitor and participant in the programs offered at the Stanley Senior Center in Waltham. She enjoyed trips to the ocean in New Hampshire and at the Cape but above all else she loved her family.

The wife of the late Amato A. Vano, she leaves her children, Dennis A. Vano (Patricia) of Stow, Gina M. Vano of Framingham and Brian E. Vano of Wareham; her daughter-in-law, Katherine Vano of Andover; her grandchildren, Emily Vano (Andrew Noland), Samantha and Joseph Vano, Joshua and Derek Fournier; her brothers, Vincent Martino of Watertown and Alfred Martino of North Andover and many nieces and nephews.

Caroline was the mother of the late Steven A. Vano and a sister of the late Angelina Silvaggi, Anthony, Joseph and Augustus Martino.

Family and friends will honor and remember Caroline's life by gathering to visit from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 19th in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
