Walpole - Barbara J. (Maher) Walsh, formerly of Newton, died Wednesday, June 1, 2022 in Newton-Wellesley Hospital after a battle with cancer. She was 74.

Barbara was born on July 17, 1947 in Waltham a daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Martin) Maher. Raised in Watertown she was a graduate of Watertown High School. Barbara was married to Edmund J. Walsh until his death on August 4, 2010. They lived many years in Newton and Barbara moved to Walpole seven years ago.

She worked as a teachers aide in the Newton Public School system for over thirty-four years, retiring three years ago due to her medical challenges.

Barbara cherished her time with family on every occasion but especially the holidays. She looked forward to her trips to Rockport and at age 59 she earned her motorcycle diving license.

She leaves her sons, Matthew J. Walsh (Christine) of Lexington, South Carolina and Michael P. Walsh (Jennifer Blake) of Walpole; her grandchildren, Abbagail, Edmund, Lucas and Damian; her siblings, Ann Coutu (late Bernard) of Marlborough, Margaret 'Sissy' Vasquezi (late James) of Leominster, Michael Maher (Mark Curley) of Westwood and Frances Kehoe of Shirley; also survived by many nieces & nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Barbara's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.), Waltham on Wednesday, June 8th from 4 to 7 p.m. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday in Saint Mary's Church, 133 School Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH BEGINNING at 9 a.m. to visit. Burial will be private.
