Waltham – Barbara A. (Shanklin) Piacentino, of Waltham, died on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 in her home following a period of declining health. She was 83.

Barbara was born in Waltham on October 1, 1937 to the late Gilbert and Elin (Bengtson) Shanklin. A graduate of Waltham High School, she had worked as a bookkeeper for many years until leaving to raise her family.

An avid traveler, she loved exploring new places and made once-in-a-lifetime memories during her trips to Italy, Iceland, Sweden as well as various trips around New England and throughout the United States.

She truly embodied the phrase "seize the day" but never started her journey without a fresh cup of coffee and a baked treat. She was an inspiration to her family and would always remind them to enjoy the beautiful gift of life, eat good food, travel often, and never stop learning about other cultures. Of all the wonderful gifts life gave her, her greatest love of all was her family. She never passed up the opportunity to spend time with loved ones.

She leaves her beloved husband, Joseph R. Piacentino; her children, Lynn A. Piacentino of Newton, Barbara E. Piacentino of Belmont and Lesley A. Keaney (Kevin) of Pepperell, several nieces, nephews and their families, and many good friends.

Barbara was also a sister of the late Alice Campbell, Elaine Hayden, Dorothy "Dottie" Ward, and Charles "Chickie" Shanklin.

Funeral services for Barbara were private.
