Waltham – Mrs. Barbara A. (Lane) Huff, of Waltham and Marshfield, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 in Saint Elizabeth's Hospital, Brighton. She was 84.

Barbara was born in Waltham on November 3, 1932, a daughter of the late Lawrence J. and Mary G. (O'Halloran) Lane. On August 31, 1957 she married Albion E. Huff in Saint Mary's Church and the pair settled in Waltham where they would raise their family. Barbara and her family also spent many happy summers in Marshfield.

Barbara and Al enjoyed fifty-seven years together before Al's death on November 8, 2014.

In the early years of her marriage Barbara worked for the Necco Candy Company and after that for the state racing commission. When her children came along she became a terrific full-time homemaker.

As the kids grew Barbara became a full-time volunteer at their school lunch rooms, libraries, CCD classes at Saint Mary's and the Cub Scouts. She was a constant presence for the school trips where she became so well known among the kids that to this day she's referred to as "Mama Huff".

She leaves her children, Susan M. Huff of Waltham, Nancy A. Huff of Marshfield, Ann Marie Huff, John Lawrence Huff and his wife, Annmarie, Patricia E. Huff, all of Waltham and Mark E. Huff and his wife, Julie Paris, of Colchester, Vermont; her grandchildren, Samantha, Victoria, Alexander, Abigail, Emily and Myles Huff; her longtime neighbors and adopted grandchildren, Kaitlyn Cullinane and Jeffrey and Kristen Gordon and many nieces and nephews.

She was also the sister of the late Lawrence J. Lane, Jr.

Family and friends will honor and remember Barbara's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, October 20th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River St., Waltham, where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.

Memorial donations may be made to The Arc of Massachusetts, 217 South Street, Waltham, MA 02453.
