Tribute & Message From The Family

Waltham – Mr. Walter A. Jensen, of Waltham, formerly of Watertown, died Friday, June 17, 2022 at his home. He was 79.

Walter was born in Boston on October 19, 1942, a son of the late Walter L. and Nancy (Guardabasso) Jensen, and was raised in Watertown. After graduating from Watertown High he served for four years with the United States Marine Corps. He lived in Watertown before moving to Waltham in 1968.

Until his retirement Walter worked for more than thirty years as an installer and contractor for the New England Telephone Company.

He was a longtime member of the Waltham Sons of Italy and the Keys Bowling League of Cambridge, and later, in Dorchester.

At home Walter was a master craftsman and woodworker, a man who not only had the tools, but knew how to use them. He also prided himself as the family historian after genealogical research revealed that his family traced three different paths to settlers who arrived on the Mayflower. For more than forty years he and his family enjoyed yearly vacations at Bayley's Campground in Scarborough, Maine.

The husband of the late Mary A. (Corr) Jensen, he leaves his children, Wayne C. Jensen (Tiana Langone) of Framingham, Kristine M. Jensen of Clarkston, Washington and Andrew M. Jensen (Kathleen) of Hudson; his sister, Claire Chateauneuf of Walpole; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was also a brother of the late Walter C. Jensen, Nancy Hickey and Priscilla Kelly.

Family and friends will honor and remember Walter's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, June 22nd from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday morning when his funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.

Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516 or at www.woundedwarriorproject.org

Condolence & Memory Journal

Mr Jensen was a friendly and helpful neighbor. We moved in across the street when Mary was still alive and both of them helped us figure out how to be new home owners in Waltham. A few years later, their grand-daughter lived with them and would sometimes play with our much younger daughter, just to be nice. I also fondly remember him feeding chipmunks and squirrels in the afternoon, while sitting on his side steps. Lots of animals enjoyed eating peanuts from his hand.

He was a very kind man and we will miss him greatly.

Sincerely,
Sue Hildreth

Mr. Jensen has been our neighbor for 25 years. He has been a friend and our neighborhood "elder" for a very long time. One of the many great things he had done here is to make our strret's mailbox stand, which has truly stood the test of time.

He also finished the basement in our house for the previous owners and it is our favorite place in our house. He consulted us on our kitchen cabinets, which made the job possible for us to complete. My young daughter spent many hours in his house playing with his granddaughter.

Walter was a part of the great generation and he will be missed by all.
