Tribute & Message From The Family

Waltham – Mrs. Mary E. (Blanchette) Tomasello, of Waltham, died Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. She was 85.

Mary was born in Dorchester on October 4, 1932, a daughter of the late Philip and Elizabeth (McMahon) Blanchette. As a child her family moved to Belmont where she was a graduate of the local high school. After that Mary attended Burdett College in Boston and after raising her children went to work as an executive secretary for RR Donnelley Company in Waltham and later after their move to Bedford. She retired when she was 72.

Following her 1953 marriage in Saint Luke's Church, Belmont to Cambridge native John A. Tomasello the couple moved to Waltham where they became lifelong residents.

John and Mary enjoyed seasonal trips to Ogunquit, Maine where walks along the Marginal Way were always on the itinerary. Mary was a self-taught piano player and was a terrific cook and baker. Her trademark apple pie will long be remembered as a family favorite.

In addition to her husband of sixty four years, John, Sr., she leaves her children, Susan J. Patuto (Carmen) of Acton, John A. Tomasello, Jr. of Pembroke Pines, Florida and Thomas E. Tomasello (Consuelo), of Westford; her grandchildren, Christopher Patuto, Thomas Patuto (Emily Kolpa), Brian Patuto (Amelia Thomas), Mark Patuto (Sarah), Justin Hamilton (Davina Burrell), Amber Hamilton (Pat Fuller), Brianna Tomasello, Lauren Blinsinger, Laura Fandino and Nicolas Fandino; her brothers, Eugene Blanchette (Ann) of South Yarmouth, Bernard Blanchette (Virginia) of Waltham and Ronald Blanchette (Carol) of Burlington; her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph 'Dodie' Tomasello (Linda) and Claire McCabe (John), all of Florida; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was also a sister of the late Philip, Paul, Robert and Edmund Blanchette.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mary's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on FRIDAY, JANUARY 5TH, from 5 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on SATURDAY morning before leaving in procession to Saint Julia's Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10a.m. Burial will be private.

Condolence & Memory Journal

To the Tomasello Family,

I would like to express my belated condolences to Susan, Jackie, Tommy and Mr. Tomasello. We were neighbors in Waltham years ago.
Your Mother was very beautiful, talented and she had a great sense of humor.

On behalf of my family, we offer our sympathy to your family.

To the entire Tomasello Family.

So sorry for your loss, Mary was a huge part of my growing up, even later in life, when I saw her, she always thought of me as one of her son's.

God rest her soul.

Mary is one of the most beautiful women I have ever met. I learned so much from her over the years. Mary's wisdom, wit and love always wrapped itself around me. I am so very fortunate to have such a dear friend. Our friendship began so many years ago when Mary started working at R. R. Donnelley and will last forever. Mary's signature catch phrase: "Be good to you"...resonates everyday. A ray of sunshine...that made my world brighter.

John and family. So sorry to hear of Mary's passing. The photo tribute is great, and now I know several of the pictures from my mom's (Marie Tomasello Daigle) photo collection were of John when he was younger. Please take care of yourselves and know that you are in our prayers. John's cousins: Janice, Dennis and Donald

I'm so sorry for your loss. I worked with Mary years ago at R.R. Donnelley. We kept in touch for a long time after we both left RRD. She was an amazing lady and always put into perspective what was important in life. She would talk about how much she loved her family and always so proud of her grandchildren.

Susan and Family. Your Mom was the best. She always made me feel like part of her family when at neighborhood gatherings, weddings, etc. I know you'll miss her terribly but she's right there in your heart❤

I am so sorry for your loss. Mary was a great lady. My mom maureen brady and mary were life long friends. They enjoyed playing tennis back in the day. One of the things i loved about mary, her wit, laughter and generosity. Mary was one of the few who could shock my dad. She could get away with that... not many do. Mary was loved and respected by entire doyle family. I will miss chatting on phone, and visits when i was in the old neighborhood. She will be missed.

John and family. You've been our neighbors since we moved to Cedarwood in 1986. In a way, it's the end of an era for us. We'll miss seeing Mary relaxing on the back deck in good weather.
Our condolences to all of you.
