Vicken and Red say it best.
Mark was among the classiest people to represent his hometown, his very distinguished bloodline, and his nation. He was decent, thoughtful, kind, brilliant, unassuming, tough as nails when circumstances required, honest, and his insightful wit knew no bounds. To me, and I hadn't spoken with him for decades, he, like his remarkable father, is unquestionably among the finest American gentlemen to ever walk the earth. Anyone fortunate enough share time and space with Mark Blackwood ended up admiring and loving him deeply. This world is much the lesser for his passing.

Dear Carol and Family,
I was so sorry to hear of your loss. Mark was one my students in my early days of teaching at the West and he was one I always remembered. He was a great kid and became a wonderful dad and father. I can still picture him in my mind from junior high.
I am sorry I am not home to attend the services but I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest condolences to the Blackwood family. Remembering him as a classmate at WHS and Salem State, and he was a Watertown kid through and through. RIP Blackie.

You could never drive by without getting wonderful smile and a big hello. Mark could put a smile on my face on my way to work or at the end of the day when I came home. He was the gate keeper of the neighborhood from his front porch. He touched so many people and our neighborhood dogs with his inner strength.
He made our neighborhood a better place to live.

While it has been far many years since I have seen Mark, I have always considered him a good and cherished classmate, teammate and friend. I fondly remember his smile and wry sense of humor, as well as his devotion to his friends and family. It is my hope that the Blackwood family take some measure of solace in knowing that Mark's many friends grieve his passing and will always remember him with great affection. May he rest in peace.
